The book aims at consolidating and documenting the beginning of the book making and writing in Ḥijāz , in the era of the Prophet and the righteous Caliphate. The author started with the process of covering the events during the period of the Prophet and the righteous caliphs, by tracking scattered texts from the main sources, summarizing the signs and precursors that accompanied the beginning of writing, and the factors that had an impact on it, such as the educational factor, the factor of writing and collecting the Qurʾān, in addition to the political, administrative, cultural, legislative and financial factors. In its second part, the book dealt with the precursors of book industry, from the writing tools and its material, to the terminology launched by the scribes in that era. The book dealt also with the era of “brightness” in Islamic civilization. One of the study’s results is the emergence of writing, the establishment of the first library in the history of Islamic civilization, the establishment of the first House of Qurʾān, the influence that Arab people had on the People of the Book and the Persians in the art of book making, the emergence of Qurʾānic centers, as well as the confirmation that the establishment of Qurʾānic schools and governmental offices took place in the era of the Prophet (peace be upon Him). This book is considered to be an important addition to our knowledge about book making in that era and beyond. Its significance stems from the fact that it covered fully the research subject.
